actually too much of abrasion of heart will lead to stoke, so too many compliments leads to flattery

Here’s a slightly different viewpoint.

To rub something lightly it to stroke it;while rubbing something too hard is abrasion.

Similarly, to praise someone in a controlled fashion is a compliment whereas an excess is flattery.
