Though my score is not respectable .but i fail to score high.

?About Real GRE.
?[1] as usual BARRONS wons the confidence once again.
all words r from barrons. i would encourage all of my friends to go through the barrons world list, thats enough.
[2] antonym r easy i think one or 2 r of having secondy meaning also . for this i would encourage all people tp go through Achievers poin antonym book , as all antonym r from this book almost.
[3] analogy r i think simple for me , i found them either direct antonym ,synonym or a degree os relationship. but no repetition of all which i had seen before , they all r new. but r easy.
[4] Sentence completion r not so tough , they r direct verbal base if u have good vocub u?can easily cracy them .
[5] RC , generally NIGHTMARE for me ,i think i had all the RC quastion wrong on the test.
RC r easy but question r too tough , not direct inferable.so i encourage all friends to put more effoerts on RC.
Sequence of question.
my first 4 question r esay i think i attempt all of them in 1 min of time.
[a] 5 th question comes RC with 40 lines.
[b] RC is esy but question is much Tough at leat for me, though i m weak in RC.
[c] as i had to attempt first 15 question right. so i spent next 9 min on the next 4 RC question.
[d] after that i faced all easy question till 20th which i probably made all correct.
[e] then agian i faced 4 rc question which put me agian in dilamatic situation.
but i start guessing on them.
[f] . from onwards 25th to 30th question r easy and i finish the test 2 min earlier.

As a confidence on maths since from chilhood,i never studied GRE maths. and had to face lose of 10 marks in maths.
i got 790 in maths.
question were easy but language is tough and lengthy difficult to infer, each question takes 30 sec for me to infer the language.i just concentrate on first 15 question and then make quick approach . time is just matching with last question.

[a] antonym od vapid, halcyon,tacitern, sojourn,
[b] analogy r like too easy. if i m notmistaken like???? one is audible:stentorian
[c] another is? lacklacdisa : defer
[d] and fill in the blanks r also easy.

the prepartion followed by me.
[a] i started prepartion 70 days before and devoted?8 hrs per day despite College hours.
[b] i gone through the following books.

[c] achieverspont analogy, antonym , sentence completion, wow, world family, RC, Acro , AWE book, NOVA,
?CLIFF, BARRONS.
?out of all i found barrons the most prefeable book and obviously all the achievers point book which make me confident.
i give following online test and with perfonmance
Cliff ————-Verbal 600,maths 750
barrons —————verbal 630 , maths 790
800.com?————– verbal 560. maths 780.
Acro?——————— verbal 610, maths 800
powerprep —————–verbal 720. quant 800
so i always demorlized by them excepet PWERPREP.

[1] You have sufficient time , utilize it properly.
[2] As u have engineering background, concentrate more on verbal
part.maths will be not so tough as u r thinking abt it.
[3] GRE key to success is barons wordlist , so try to remember it very
first, if u r begineer. then try to remember at leat 100 word per day
, for remembering words as such there is no tricks, for individuals
tricks for ex.
i learn them by write down 100 words daily with my familier example.
however i would encourage u to but achieverspoint Barrons picture
dictionary that is very good, however i had never used it.
[4] i suggest u too learn all barrons word by the end of 30th june , work hard.
beside this in this one month try to do antonym from barrons and
sentence completion , analogy.by this time u will be highly
demoralized as u find ur performance very low becz of unawareness
towards word, but hv patience.
[5] try to follow barrons book, princton , and nova book, bigbook they
r more than sufficient,. or if u intelligent then i would say barrons
and bigbook r enough.
[6] Good news, u have internet availablity with u, so try to follow
the Old Archive of Takegre Website , it have 2000 analogy and 2000 antonym and sentence
completion each.and a no of comments from experts people. this website
will be cmpleted reviewed by u till end of june. while u r learning
words from barrons.
[7] for RC i m not the right person to suggest , they r night mare for
me, however i can give u the idea that , RC r not so long and they r
easy to read . but question r very hard i mean inference type
question, so pratics as much as u can, i think for paratics RC
BIGBOOK is the best material.
[8] now in the last 20 days do pratics test as much u can, becz time
managment is the basic issue with GRE.start from 800.com which i had
put in the scene download 5 test from there and see ur performance it
should be around verbal 600+ and maths 750+ . for actual GRE 1400+.
MATHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
[1] maths question not so tough thy r lengthy and difficult to
understand , concentrate more on equalities, as 40% question r on it,
DI is easy , however time and work problem are little bit tough. try
from barrons and complete bigbook i think more then sufficient u will
got confident by finishing all these.
[2] for REAL TEST try to correct first 10 question write at any
cost, even by taking extra time, that is the key to success.
TIME MANAGEMENT:
[1] For maths This is the basic fact as now a days question are coming with sufficent length , reading and infering the quesstion took 30 secof your time , i too face this problem in actual test.
[2] i would suggest you that first of all increase your calculating speed like addition and multipliacation. as Graphs question are toatally based on this , they dont ask you the exact multiplication but the roughly idea as i mention in my first post please read it.
[3] There are around 10 question on inequalities so try to pratics them more this will help you in time managment.
[4] Do pratics more with tricy question as question in GRE can be solved by 2methods either by tricky or by usual method. i prefer you to try from BIgbook test daily 2 test and try to comlete it with in time.this willl really boost your confidence.
[5] For geometry Princton book is the best try from it if you can manage it from some of your friends it will help you in time management also.
[6] try to remember as much as short formula as you can learn like . Area of polygon n2\2sin X\360 , Area of rhombus d1*d2\4 etc these will help you in time managment, you can got them by google search like for polygon type “formula for polygon”
[9] Do less chatting, less theater , less movie, less gossip, less
drinking ,less parties. More study, more words,more RC, more analogy and more Maths.
i m sure u will got 1500+.my wishes r with you.

For maths if you are trying a book which have all the tricks and formula then refer to Achievers point maths book. I found this book very useful for as a short time prepartion material .

first of all congrats! you are doing a great work for all gre-takers. i’m preparing for it, but not taken the dates yet. i’m in final(10th) sem. b.arch.
i’m refering barron n web sources related to it.i found all th equant. as easy, i’v gone through all the quant reviews, few were taking more than stipulated time,hope to practice them before exam.
started memorizing words. doing it with the help of flash cards.words one side and meanings on other. started with 3 words per card. then went for 5 per card.i do 5 cards, means 25 words per slot. but i’m not able to go with the pace needed. as i’v not taken the date or for some reason, the speed is not up to the mark. sometime i find the words i memorized very strange, as if i’v nevr seen them.
give me some valuable advice. as i found u to be a great counselor for gre.

You have sufficient time , utilize it properly.
GRE prepartion depends upon the following factors as per my experience.
[1] Your background Genrally engineering background students took one week for maths and 2 months for verbal part as i had seen them till now for 1400+ score.
[2] You reading skills and how much you are familier with english is you are much familier you can reduce time about some days in verbal prepartion.
[3] Number of hours one devotee to studies per day. generally 8 hoursper day require 2 months as i think about GRE and so on in proportion ratio.
[4] Your talent if you are highly talented the it will help you a lot.

Cracking verbal depends on the followign factors as per my GRE experience.
[1] 70% approach is how good vocab you have , must complete barrons as the basic it will help you a lot.
[2] For analogy- how well you are in establishing relationship this will coem with a lots of pratics sometimes after having good vocab students fails to control over Analogy so for Analogy pratics as much as you can from different source.
[3] For antonym inccrease vocab genarlly secondry meaning of word.
[4] For RC i think i am not the right person to suggest as they are night mare for me but still i would suggest try princton book As later on i find this book quite useful for me.
[5] For time managment Pratics as much as you can and increse vocab try to saev time for RC .
[6] For Sentence completion pratics as much as you can , be familier with transition and use them as much as youo can . and undertand flow of ssentence once you complete 1000 sentence you start enjoyng it itself.

I have done my M.Sc in Physics and IT both…
I am also going to take GRE soon ..most probably in SEP second week.I have almost completed half of the Barron’s vocab …but after some time its hard for me to recall words exactly.
In maths , can u please advise me the right source to go thru for TIME , Work and Solid geometry questions. I have written GRE earlier also , but due to poor timing and lack of knowledge i cudn’t come thru. I am very much scared this time and will really appreciate if you could suggest me the ways that can help me in overcomeing my weaknesses.
Also,am very bad in Issue writing ..do you have any tip for that!!!

[2]Devote as much as you can preferably 8 hours per day.
[3] Dont forget to pratics actual test with in time constrain as that is the important part for the last 10 days prior to your test date.
[4]Use Barrons Picture Dictionary By Achievers point to remeber Word .
Though i never used it but i had seen it , a quite exceptable book.
[5]Try memoriziing word with example , try to use in day to day life, put efforts in more example use different dictionary like for origin of word you can use.
[6] Webster dictionary.
for noun use Online Wikipedia
for diffcicult word use Oxford online distionary.

[2] Start reading editorial page of newspaper , i think daily 20 -30 minute is enough.

[4] Search the word document which have 500 Actaul GRE issure topic and how to crack them or ask to your friends for this help , at starting i get this from abolg site a word document now i dont know the location i think google search can help you in this a lot.
[5]is still not confident then . try tricks , like how to write first line of the all pharagraph , and how to conclude the topic in last pahara or last lines.
[6] IS still need help asl more experts or recent aaaa GRE takers .i think they can help you a lots.

[1] It is good, but i will suggest atleast one time you will go throgh the bigbook and get familier with the maths question.The actual test level is same as in the Bigbook, if you feel comfortable then its ok otherwise devoute 5 days for maths for a quick overview of maths formula etc.
[2] Test date 21 Sep
Good, you have sufficient time utilize it properly and try to increase the study hours to 8 hours per day. if you can do it.
[3] Score above 600 In vebal . kindly tell me about somthing how mu ch familier you are with Vocub, Did you had competed Barrons wordist if not then upto what.

[1] This is the right time to start ,most of indian talented srudent start at this time.
i would prefer this level starting for a number of reason,
(A) In the final semester you wont have too much work pressure as per your engineering, so you can utilise time in GRE prepartion.
(B) if you start now and give the exam in october i think you have 3 months of time with you that is the sufficient time for prepartion.
(C In noember i think there wont be your 7th semester exam so no exam pressure , as in general they start from december.
(D)Secondly if you will give exam in Novenber then you can apply for the fall 2008 , deadline are in general dec 2007 for these application . and admission start for august 2008 by the time you will finish your undergraduationa also.
So in summary i prefer this is the perfect time for you
For books
[1] I think as you are from engineering background maths wont be a problem , but still give mock test and see how much you are comfortablel with it,
(A) if you are find then i think one week is enough for you in the month of august fora quick review of maths tricks and formula.
(B) if yo find difficulty in maths then give it 15 days to prepare.
Books are as follows.
For geometry refer ro Barond CD.
For quant refer ro prinction book .
And complete the whole BIG -Book as this is quite useful to boost up your confidence.
[2] For verbal first see how much comfortable you with RC, Antonym etc.
(A) key to success is barrons word list so cram it all in the first 2 months completely.
(B) refer to online blogs site discuss your issue with other GRE asoirants as you can on this website also.
(C) refer to Achievers point three book, antonym, analogises, Sentence completion , i had ussed them and fnd them quiet useful. complete all these book in the first 2 months
For Other books
refer to Princton for RC.
refer to barrons for MAths
refer to Nova, kaplan for verbal.

(A) in the last month you will save time for mock test as much as you can . as time managment is the main issue in the GRE test , COmplete the BIG-BOOk in the last months and give online test like 800.com the account info i had already meantion to all in my above post.
(B) Try to devotee 6 hours per day from monday to friday and 8-9 hours per day on weekends , i am sure you will score 1500+.
At last , less gossip,less paties, less chatting, less drinks, etc more sitting, more maths , more verbal , will leads to you a great achievements.

Uses the following books.
1 Bigbook, Barrons,Kaplan,Nova,
2. Use the following dictonary
Oxford Genie for exact meaning
Webster online for the synonym and Etymology of words
WIkipedia for Nouns , best method to remember the nouns . As wikipedia has picture
Use Achieverrs point Barrons picture dictionary, though i had never used it but i had seen it , a quiet accptable and interesting too in reading i think it help .
3. Building Vocub is very important to win over the verbal part.
4. For analogies etc read as much as bloag sites you can read on nets. refer to big book and complete all of its analogy . try to understand the relation between the analogy. try achieverspoint analogy book its has 1500 analogy , i found it quiet helpful me, once you will go through it you will get confident on annalogy and types of relation betwwen them.
5. For antonym vocub power is needed try to complete barons wordlist as early as possible, try to memorize the secondry meaning also as one antonym in Real GRE will be based on the secondry meaning also probably.
once again read blogs site and go through the big book antonym .
6. Sentence completion are not so tough , now a days they are mre verbal based rather then understandin so if you have good vocub you can crack them . refer to princton book i found it useful for the sentence completion .
7. RC i cant suggest you in a better way they are reallt night mare for me.but hope you will cover Bigbbook rc i think its has around 300 Rc so once yuo complete all these obviously you will get confident on the type of question coming in GRE RC.
8. Read the time managment issue as that is very important for GRE.

Tips for maths,
[1] Maths question are not so tough , but lengthy in writing and difficult to understand and tricky but once you understand them you can easily conquer them.
[2] For tricks concentrate on two things
make your calculation faster as all the graphs based question need faster calculation , see some online tricks to improve calculation faster.
Secondly for each type of question cram all the shortcut formula , like for polygan see are of polygan , cram the diret formula, similiar for the sequeace problem and geomtry problem.
[3] For book i will say the BIG book and NOVA are quiet useful for maths, If you will able to solve the big-book maths question it will make you familier with the type of question that will come in the GRE.
[4] Still if you find Difficulty in the maths refer to Achievers point marhs books i think it will took 10-14 days of time to cover whole syllabus to make you confident on the maths question.
[5] Try to give some online test and check your performance if still you find difficulty the refer to ARUN Aggraval book for maths .
[6] concentrate more on the Inequalities question as i think 10 question are there from this field.So try to pratics as much as you can.
[7] If you haev internet availablity read as many blogs sites as you can and try to solve all these question .this will help you lot.
[8] Have patience you will definitely imporoved on maths.

There are different stratigies to win over the RC , in fact they are nightmare for me, but still i would like to suggest you following things.
[1] If you are facing shortage if time, then try to read the question first then the RC dotn waste time on reading the compplete RC at first hand. this will benifit you in many ways like..
[a] if you read the RC first and then read the question to solve the question you have to read the RC again, so why you read it twice read passage only once while you solve the question.
[b] GRE question are tough bysimple reading you cant answer them rightly.so its better you read them after question
[2] Increase your scanning speed come to the point where ate question want you to stop and tehn read before and after 2 lines. it will help you lot.
[3] pratics as much as you can so that you will be familier that transitin like , if, why ,not , moreever which put stress need to be read carefullly.
[4] Read first and last line of each para carfull yas in general they conclude the passage.
I think try all this you start getting confident on RC .
Regarding time , i had posted many post above you can read them.
however increase your devoted hours from 3-4 to 7-8 hours per day if you can.. That will really help you a lot.

[1] Depends on the individual background, and the availablity of time per day . i can say a science student , 8 hours per day requires max of 90 days to crack GRE with 1400+
[2] Verbal are easy in comparsion of all the books available in the market and the onling blog site and the online test paper.This is what i had seen during my 90 days period and the test day.
[3] GRE is not a big deal . everything is possible have courage and crack it with enough determination.

there are many technique to welcome the new word.
how many words do u study per day?
[1] in starting i skim through the word i think 400 per day.
[2]once i skim all the barrons , then i go for the 2nd reading . 200 word per day.
[3] In the third reading i will make it 300 word pae day + the last day word.
No matters how much you cover in a days, depends on individuals so [1]whatevr suits you best do that, if 100 words suit you best then go for 100 word per day.

[1]all students are same for the Gre, dont get demoralized just have determination GRE is not a big deal , start the prepartion and enjoy the study.

In the last 2 week try to concenrtrate on the taking as much test as you can give and check your score, as time is the most important factor for GRE . make sure you will be comfortable with the timing constraint and note down your time .make revision of your vocub i think on a 3 day interwal, make a 5 revision to make you confident for all the vocub whatever you have collection ,and the last day have fun no work just relax.

[1] At present i have not much online material , what i have is helpful for passage and AWA you can goto gramaterial@gmail.com and take it from there. passwd is in the above post.
[2] For words there are many technique , depends on person to person , i used to remember them by example, read 4-5 online dictionary for a single word , go to the history of word, Read some of the above post, i think i have mention some techniqe which works well for me to remember words.
[3] For pharam there are some good univ in the US like wisc madison which have good course and funnding also. For UK i dot have mush idea , but one thing for sure top 20 univ if US are better then top 20 UNIV of UK in field of engineerinng, for pharama i cant say much, i have little knowledge in this field.

Reading Comprehension makes all the difference in GRE for most of the test-takers. Tackling RC is something that comes from school. Quick question for you Yadav, from your experience, do you think Princeton review or Kaplans course (private tutoring) will help?
As you said before, reading the first and the last two lines of Yet, I still suffer in RC. I got a 1340 on GRE. 800 in math, but only 540 in Verbal. Panic and stress kill me during the exam on RC. I knew I screwed up RC big time after the test. RC is the only obstacle for me in GRE, stopping me from getting a 1400+ score. Any advice on RC Yadav will help me a great deal!! Yadav or anyone, this is my plea for any suggestion or any methods to tackle RC.

I am a final year Biotechnology student.ie a non-maths background..so maths does scare me..i wud say i’m okay at eng bt not2 gr8..i m giving my gre on 16thsep..i hav very less time na??
I have read al yr suggestions above..bt stil wud want yr help as in frm wher can i get2 download d BIG book??
I can devote 6-7 hrs daily for studyin..net is nt much available…

You are right big book is the only reliable book which i can suggest to you for improving the math. I dont have any online link for the bigbook, but i think if you will search on esnips.com then probbaly you can find it, if you are near delhi, mumbai or banglore these city market have availablity of bigbooks, for delhi (new sadak near railway station , dhariyang road) for mumbai(Thane book market ).Hope this will help you.

Congrats on your GRE Success….
I am planning to take the GRE Exam on November 5th,2008. I am going through Barrons and Kaplan books currently.I am unable to find the BIG Book. Can you please let me know where to find the same in Bangalore?
Is TOEFL preparation similiar to GRE?
Also what sort of GRE/TOEFL scores and what is the minimum criteria to get into Stanford University or any university in the TOP 10 list (US News)?

congrat 4 ur gr8 score & the way u have answer all the question is really amazing..
Currently I m working as an database design engg and will sit 4 my gre on 24th sept.hav very short time to prepare myself for gd score.
I took some test from BIG BOOK but only manage to score avg. score 4m 1120 to 1180(math 740 + 400 verbal) and fail to identify my exact problem..sthg I really get frustrate abt my situation …i already took one month leave from my office to prepare myself well.
plzz help me to out from this labyrinth situation & give me some hope to get at least 1250 on my gre exam.

Toefl is far easy then GRE . but still dont take it on easy way.
For Banglore i am sorry i dont know the location where you can find BIgBOOK
For getting admission into top 3 univ MIT,BEERKLY, STANNFORD you need
more experience rather and researh hand on rather then GRE.
But as far as i know if you have good research and industrial exp you can get admission even with 1100 Gre score in MIT and Stanfort i know some of students.
US news is not a reliable source for the ranking, i encourged you to personely email the univ graduate student and ask them about the your interesting they can give you the real picture.

[1] Dont take panic, try to put more efforts on giving mock test.
[2] Try to devote some more time per day to study .
[3] And i think i have write all the things what i know about GRE test in the above post, if still you need to ask on some thin tell me, if i can help you.
Even with low score you can get into good place trust me on this, so dont be demoralized but try your best.

If you think apart 4m this I have to solve some other mock test exam then please specify details with source, specially for math as big book maths r too much easy to solve through i do some silly mistake.

For maths, achievers point have some 2-3 books which i had followed , you can refer them they are good for pratics.

For analogy pratics as much as you can , you can do all the database of takegre.com i think here are almost more then 2000 analogy.

Your suggestions and tips presented in this fourm are helpful. I read in another site that the big book’s questions are outdated and the GRE: Practicing to Take the General Test, 10th Edition, ETS, is more reliable.
